My Wife and I spent the summer of 2010 looking at over 40 homes on Lake Winnipesaukee – quite an experience in itself. On numerous occasions we toured homes built by Skiffington. Each one made a lasting impression. Attention to detail, beautiful settings with architectural themes to meet the individual’s desires. The interiors were inspiring and functional with spaciousness, and yet coziness that caused us to say, “We can picture ourselves here”.
Joe owned a spectacular piece of property on the north side of Governors Island overlooking the lake, with vast mountains in the background. The site was perfect for us to build the home of our dreams, an Adirondack styled exterior with varying themes throughout the interior.
We had great confidence in Skiffington Homes when we signed our P&S Agreement in October 2010 and knew this was right for us. Last December we scheduled a Family Reunion for August 3rd to include my Dad, his 3 brothers and 4 generations of Fairbanks to our, to be built, lake house. Joe committed himself to a closing date at the end of June. Plenty of time to furnish and ready ourselves for 18 overnight guests. And then, it snowed, and snowed, and snowed – 50% above normal – driving Joe crazy; while I enjoyed the most robust winter season with exuberant skiers and boarders enjoying our mountains. Joe lost too many snow days to count and probably spent more time and money shoveling snow than ever before. What was remarkable was Joe’s commitment to do his very best to get us closed on time. Well, we missed it by 4 weeks, but with his crews help and our small army of furniture movers, we moved in 3 weeks late, July 21st and closed on the 28th. It was tight, but we made it. During July, I got to know his crew extremely well. What an outstanding group, a talented team who truly works together and collaborates to get the job done.
Throughout it all, Joe helped us to make the right decisions, listened to what “We” wanted and never shortcutted any aspect in order to achieve an extremely high quality home. He was amazing – he knew he was behind, but stayed calm (as far as we could tell, you’d have to ask his wife) and kept us informed beyond belief. Weekly YouTube videos became the highlight of the week for our family – especially my Dad and his brothers. The videos were informative updates on what stage we were at and identified things to consider. To be honest, I think he wants to be a film producer, his crew said he lit up during each filming.
In all my years of construction, with its stresses and strains, Joe Skiffington stands way above the typical contractor. He is just plain “Outstanding”. A one of a kind builder, who takes great pride in his work and has an incredibly talented crew of dedicated tradesmen and woman, who were fantastic to work with. All this doesn’t happen by accident. It is because of Joe Skiffington, a unique individual, whom enabled us to have a family reunion, as planned, that will be a memory for a lifetime.
