Some 20 years ago, we met Joe Skiffington while looking for our first waterfront home in Moultonborough, NH. At that time, Joe had just built his first Lake Winnipesaukee waterfront home. My wife and I simply fell in love with what, at the time, seemed like a dream house: great workmanship, expansive windows, and fabulous landscaping. We bought that first Skiffington waterfront home and Joe proceeded to take great care of us during that purchase – he continually checked in for more than the first 5 years of ownership to be certain we were pleased with all aspects of the home. We lived in and enjoyed that home for 20 years; we raised our young children there and experienced some of our very best family memories in that Skiffington home.
Fast forward to 2010, our family is growing, we still love our lot, location, and home; but something is missing. One Saturday morning, my wife happened to see a Skiffington home on Governor’s Island that she thought was gorgeous. In the next 4 hours, she had found our new home: stunning appearance, dramatic roof lines, impeccable attention to detail and quality features not often found in homes in the Lakes Region. As fate would have it, we contacted Joe to explore possibilities; he couldn’t have been more accommodating and agreed to meet us the very same day. Needless to say, we were blown away by Joe’s attention to detail, all facets of construction, his knowledge of New Hampshire environmental law, but above all, his humility, intellect and confidence! Joe suggested we look at staying on our lot. Imagine that! He wasn’t pushing the sale of his Governor’s Island spec house that we loved because he qualified why we loved Moultonborough and in the end, he convinced us that we would be better served by staying on our lot that we fell in love with 20 years ago. Joe mapped out a plan that would demolish and rebuild our new dream home all within 16 months. We were ecstatic and ready to embark on the process of building again on Winnipesaukee. While all of Joe’s qualities were obvious to us 20 years ago, his unbounded energy and enthusiasm were now combined with a polish and sophistication that gave us total confidence in the project. There would be myriad details to attend to in the demolition and construction and we knew Joe would handle even the most minute of issues. We were absolutely correct. No concern was too small, no question too silly, no worry left invalidated. All we had to do was ask, and Joe addressed everything we brought up…instantly! As we commenced with the project, Joe’s other previous clients were more than gracious. They allowed us to tour their finished homes; all happy to see Joe; all proud of their homes and all anxious to share the many happy stories about dealing with a builder who goes the extra mile on everything!
Today we are the wildly happy and proud owners of the newest Skiffington Home on Lake Winnipesaukee. We were eager to have a home that was understated, yet classy…to say our expectations were exceeded would be a colossal understatement. We are so thrilled with every part of our new home – it’s amazing. From day one, Joe’s communication, follow-through, and commitment to see to it that every component of our construction was top-notch gave us supreme confidence that we had made a superior choice. In the early stages of construction, Joe would often say “this will be the most exciting and satisfying project you have ever been involved in – be it personal or business”…he was right!! Each new day would bring Joe’s emails of the progress made on our project. Each day we would receive emails on accomplishments achieved and plans for upcoming work…this was not only a fluid project – it also created real excitement with each new stage. We’re absolutely thrilled to say as Joe suggested, this was by far, the most rewarding, pleasing and exciting project we have ever experienced.
We just have to mention Joe’s crews. They were nothing short of phenomenal, each and every one of them from architectural to excavating crews, from framing crews to finishing crews and the final touch landscaping teams. These were professionals that took enormous pride in our home – and if you didn’t know it, you’d swear each of them had a vested interest in seeing to it that the customers every expectation was exceeded. They arrived early, stayed late, and treated the construction site respectfully. We got to know every one of them by name and they too instilled in us huge confidence about the project. Since we were often on-site, they were never annoyed that we were around and always took time to answer our questions and explain what they were doing. In watching them work, we often remarked that they labored as if they were working on their own homes. As we moved from construction to interior design, we had the best professionals in the area helping us with all interior selections: cabinets, tile, colors and so much more! We just never imagined the finished project could be so magnificent. Our home was completed 2 months ago and Joe continues to call us every week (sometimes multiple times each week!) just to stay in touch. In a day when so many business transactions are just that, strictly business, Joe and his team not only bring personal attention to everything they touch, they care deeply about the Skiffington Homes reputation by caring as much after the sale as Joe did when we signed the Construction Contract with him…JUST INCREDIBLE!
We are beyond proud to say that Joe Skiffington and his team have built two waterfront homes for us on Winnipesaukee. We now have a sensational and stunning home that is molded to our taste, reflects our lifestyle and is so perfect, structurally and aesthetically, that at times we have to pinch ourselves.
If you are serious about owning the best, working with the best and having the security of knowing you have someone on the other end of the transaction that cares about your project more than you, then you owe it to yourself to meet Joe Skiffington…there is no better builder/developer/owner/CEO in New England. From initial renderings to final interior design, this project was a joy and was simply extraordinary.
With enormous appreciation to Joe Skiffington and team.
